Doha Forum/Enriching the Middle East’s Economic Future Conference, May 12-14, 2014

This year, Doha Forum will be held in conjunction with Enriching the Middle East’s Economic Future Conference, from May 12 to 14, 2014.

The Forum will offer an overview of issues regarding democracy, development and free trade in the Middle-East, the Arab countries and the world.

During the Conference, will be announced a serie of prizes for economic and social innovation in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The prizes, in the form of grants from a pool of 100,000 USD, will be awarded to individuals and/or organizations with novel project ideas to:

  • stimulate the business environment for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs);
  • improve education and training to increase skills and employability; and/or
  • promote public sector innovation in the MENA region.

EU Southern Neighbourhood Civil Society Forum 29-30 April, 2014

A series of intense consultations with civil society organisations were initiated by an inter-institutional steering group comprised of members of the European Commission External Action Service and the European Economic and Social Committee, with contributions from Anna Lindh Foundation, in order to empower civil society in the Southern Neighbourhood and to help them participate as an active and relevant partner in efforts at building demoocracies, fostering inclusive economic growth, supporting social cohesion and securing sustainable development.

The EU-Southern Neighbourhood Civil Society Forum (Brussels) will be the place to decide how to move forward.

La Réunion consultative arabe rassemblera des experts ainsi que des leaders issus de la société civile afin de faire l’état des lieux des défis de celle-ci, trois ans après le Printemps arabe et au vu des derniers événements. Elle vise également à définir les questions et priorités qui se posent ainsi que les changements survenus parmi les acteurs de la société civile .
La réunion entend évaluer les similitudes et les différences présentes au sein de la société civile dans les domaines pertinents pour le programme de DAWRAK-Citoyens pour le dialogue ainsi qu’apporter une analyse poussée concernant la participation des citoyens dans les périodes de transition.

Annual conference of Carnegie Middle East Center (22-23 January 2014)

The Carnegie Middle East Center organizes its annual conference on “Security Sector Transformation in Arab Transition: Working for Change”.

The conference will be held on 22-23 January, 2014 in Amman, Jordan.

The conference will bring together officials, experts, and activists from Arab countries to discuss the latest developments and provide policy recommendations on issues related to security sector reform in the MENA region according to the following parameters:

  • The legal framework
  • Codes of conduct
  • Devising goals and action plans
  • Community policing: (is it good or problematic?)
  • De-militarization and de-politicization of the security sector
  • Rights, needs, and entitlements of security personnel
